2025-11-182025-11-18https://repositorio.uandes.cl/handle/uandes/56388<p>This chapter examines the impact of school closures on rural education during the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile, specifically focusing on remote learning experiences. This analysis is based on interviews with 12 dyads of seventh-grade students and their mothers, who were beneficiaries of the government program “Yo elijo mi PC” (I Choose My Computer). The findings reveal that due to significant delays in the program, smartphones took on a prominent role for educational purposes. As a result, there are variations in the perceived affordances of smartphones between mothers and students, with mothers acknowledging their educational value. Additionally, students reported feeling empowered when using mobile phones, but primarily consider them useful for entertainment and social media purposes.</p>info:eu-repo/semantics/restrictedAccessChapter
