<p>The romance Relación de la inundación que hizo el río Mapocho, written by the Carmelite nun Sister Tadea de San Joaquín regarding the traumatic experience of the flooding of his monastery due to a mother outflow of the Mapocho River, which occurred in Santiago de Chile in June 1783, is a notable example of the genre of baroque catastrophe poetry. The poem shows the innate talent of this nun to improvise verses in which she is able to present the painful circumstances of the flood with appropriate touches of humor, thus managing to relieve the heavy burden of the disaster.</p>
