dc.description
Integrating technology and engineering into STEM education remains challenging for many teachers, who often hold misconceptions about their nature and roles in interdisciplinary learning. This issue is particularly relevant in Latin America, where STEM education is still developing and professional development opportunities are limited. This study evaluates an online professional development program designed to clarify the role of technology in STEM, promote its integration with engineering, and support curriculum-aligned lesson design. Grounded in a structured framework, the program was delivered to three cohorts of K–12 teachers. Its impact was assessed through pre- and post-program self-perception of knowledge and the analysis of school projects designed by participants. Results indicate increased teacher confidence, deeper understanding of technology and engineering, and improved ability to design integrative STEM activities. The study also demonstrates the value of combining self-perception data with practical assessments to evaluate learning outcomes. Findings suggest that focused, accessible professional development can strengthen teachers’ ability to teach technology as a distinct and connected component of STEM education.
eng
